HOW
TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT
CHAIRMAT
Selecting
the right chairmat for any work area begins by choosing the most
appropriate shape. Four shapes are illustrated.
Over 90% of all requirements are usually met by the Single Lip and
Rectangular shapes. When stock shapes don't fully meet the needs
of a given area, custom-shaped chairmats can be Special ordered.
Once the shape is selected, determine the ideal size. While the
most-ordered chairmat size is 45" x 53", stock chairmats
are available in sizes ranging from 36" x 48" up to 72"
x 96". Make your decision by considering the total floor space
available, the width of space under the desk or workstation, the
size of the chair base and the range of front-to-back and side-to-side
movement you want without rolling off the edge of the chairmat.
Regardless of the shape, the measurements are always given in overall
dimensions (includes lip).
The next important factor is knowing if the chairmat will be used
over carpet or over a hard surface like linoleum tile or hardwood.
Chairmats used over padded, plush carpeting need to be more rigid
and thicker than those placed on unpadded commercial carpeting.
For commercial and rubber backed carpets without padding, choose
Economy ER10 (.100 Thick). For low pile carpets of 3/8 inches or
less including padding choose Intermediate ER19 (.125 Thick). For
medium pile carpets of 3/4 inches or less including padding choose
Standard thickness ER20 (.145 Thick). For carpets more than 3/4
inch thick, choose Premium ER35 (.200 Thick).
As indicated in the charts, all chairmats for use over carpet are
offered with anchorpoints which nest in the carpet and keep the
mat firmly in place. Chairmats for use on hard surfaces do not have
anchorpoints but are textured on both sides.
Chairmats can be ordered with beveled edges or straight edges. Chairsandchairs.com
offers both designs. We are also able to special order other thicknesses
you might need, bevel edges on sizes we do not stock and special
sizes to fit your special needs. E-mail your specific information

restrictions on carpet and caster specifications on custom sizes.
The one last feature to consider is antistatic protection for computers,
magnetic media and other electronic equipment. Just as a power surge
device protects against electric current spikes, Anti-Static chairmats
protect against harmful static discharges that can destroy files
and cause computers and software to malfunction.
Check Warranty restrictions on anti-static mats.
